What is a Spaghetti Western? - a movie about the American Old West made cheaply in Europe, typically by an Italian producer and director. Why would Tarantino use this genre for a World War II movie? - He used this genre to present the harshness of war and how it is dealt with. There are many protagonists but they can also be antagonists in other ways. Showing that there can sometimes be a hero in the end that saves everyone. In Inglorious Basterds , Aldo is shown to be the protagonist but when killing everyone else, he can be a antagonist. In the movie, there is characters that come out of the shadows that no one knew was there. Many characters can also be working with other groups but then go against them in the end. 3 ways Tarantino subverts the audiences expectations: - The characters that survived a killing in the beginning of the film are later present in the end of the film - Some of the characters just talking can show the audience that the...

A Spaghetti Western is a movie about the american old west made cheaply in Europe, typically by an Italian producer and director. Tarantino might've used this genre for a world war II movie because it goes against what most war films are supposed to do. It's slow building, dialogue filled, stylistic, with long-winding plots and revenge to be had. He might've wanted to try something new and subvert the audiences expectations. 1. Tarantino subverts the audiences expectations by killing off major characters almost as soon as they're introduced, like the British lieutenant. 2. Tarantino subverts the audiences expectations by doing an introduction story about only one of the basterds (Hugo Stiglitz) and none of the others. 3. He subverts the audiences expectations by having their be more dialogue than fighting...in a war film.
Critique Reflection

A lot of comments I received on the film pertained to the actors and how good we all did at setting an appropriate tone and atmosphere for the scene. I felt that I acted well, and my classmates said so as well. I feel like I could've improved by garnering more knowledge of how to help out on the sound side, when it came to the mics and such. My classmates suggested we improved cutting for the film, switching from one perspective to another smoother. I can improve by being able to help my fellow crew members by furthering my knowledge of the technical side of the filming. I think my acting ability is a big strength of mine and I could improve it by getting into the characters head more and learning their motivations and what makes them tick as a person.

Critique reflection I feel that the camera movements and shot angles were on point and matched the movies shots and the dialogue was clear and loud through mostly the whole film. Classmates said that the camera shots were good and the costume were close to the film. The dialogue was clear, and the lighting and contrast was good as well. I need to work on taking background sounds out of my film and get better and clearer dialogue. Wearing better costumes to match the film as well. I plan on to improve my dialogue shots and get better camera movement shots. I don’t have many strengths but the contrast in some shots were great and brought out the character in it and adding sounds to the clip so it matches the actual film clip.
Selecting My Genre: Horror

http://theslenderman.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_MarbleHornets_Entries I'm interested in filming a horror short. I think I prefer horror the most because to me it gives off such an adrenaline rush to watch a horror film and I find it very interesting what people might be or might not be scared of. I think this says about me that I am an adrenaline junkie. I would love to emulate Joseph DeLage and Troy Wagner's work on online found footage series such as Marble Hornets (seen above) and TribeTwelve (not shown). Something about the rawness of found footage films bring out the actor in me and I'm always excited to watch one because I think they're just so interesting.
Thriller

My choice for genre is thriller. I love watching films such as Night Crawler or Alien, and feeling the suspense as it fills your insides. It creates a feeling that I only get watching certain films that I've always enjoyed. I am drawn to the genre due to the incredible camerawork and scenery that goes an incredible distance to create a mood for the film. It means that the movie doesn't hinge entirely on the skill of the talents, which is rather important when filming in a school of untrained students. I would like to emulate the way that Dan Gilroy creates incredibly suspenseful scenes through only observing potential danger. I want to create the feeling of helplessness that Hitchcock portrays in rear window, only being able to watch and not being able to help in any way. These feelings when created in film are some of my favorite parts of movies or TV, and is a large reason why I chose the thriller category. This clip from the original Alien creates an awful feeling of hopel...
